Story
NCCG University Centre is supporting Relay for Life, we have all lost someone to cancer, whether that be a relative or friend, but for this event we stand united as sadly we lost our colleague Audrey in 2024 and she was an amazing person who always knew how to make you smile and lit up the room.
About the event; Relay For Life brings communities together to fundraise for Cancer Research UK and beat cancer. Teams of friends, families and colleagues fundraise for research to save and improve lives, then unite as a community at an event to honour everyone affected by cancer and celebrate the progress we’ve made.
During the event, team members take turns to complete an activity, whether that be laps of a track, walking through a park or some other challenge. No matter your age or abilities, Relay welcomes everyone. Every step and every participant counts. There are also countless other ways to participate in your local Relay event, connect with your community and fundraise.
Each Relay is organised by a dedicated local volunteer committee delivering an incredible event of celebration and remembrance. We honour our special guests who've lived through cancer, and as we walk, we enjoy a variety of games and music from talented local performers. It's an event for the whole family to enjoy where you can also learn about our scientific breakthroughs.
As darkness falls, Relayers gather for the Candle of Hope ceremony. The event becomes a sea of flickering lights as we take a moment to reflect and honour everyone affected by cancer.
Finally, no Relay For Life is complete without the closing ceremony which celebrates our progress and inspires us all to continue our efforts to beat cancer.
