I am running the 2023 Great North Run for WellChild because they improve the lives of seriously ill children.

Story

August Update: Alex's mum passed away in early August 2023 and so we have both postponed our entry to the 2024 edition of the race.

After Sarah's successful first attempt at the London Marathon in October 2022, we have both decided to enter the Great North Run in September 2023.

After watching the event each year on TV, I (Alex) wanted to give myself a challenge - to which I thought a full marathon would be impossible.. however a half will be do-able. In my excitement I managed to entice my girlfriend Sarah into joining me. We will be running for the charity she ran the marathon for (WellChild).

WellChild Childrens Nurses provide essential care and practical support to children and young people requiring long-term or complex care. They play a crucial role in enabling children to leave hospital and be cared for at home, reducing the practical, emotional and financial impact for families.

WellChild is also committed to funding high quality, innovative projects designed to have a positive impact for seriously ill children both now and in the future. This includes WellChilds Helping Hands programme which continues to go from strength to strength, working with volunteers from companies and organisations across the country to tackle essential projects in the homes of children with serious illness. Those volunteers provide the manpower and enthusiasm for projects such as bedroom and garden makeovers.
