Story
Michael, along with his friends David Fisher, 44, Ian Pickering, 60, Robert Picking, 34, and Jerrica Van Vuuren, 41, will be running from Newcastle to the coast of South Shields, all in support of Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK). In total, they are hoping to raise a fantastic £1,750 for the charity which helps fund research into treatments for rare, life-limiting muscle-wasting and weakening conditions and supports the 110,000 children and adults across the UK affected by these conditions.
Having been diagnosed with Becker muscular dystrophy, a muscle-wasting condition that causes muscles to weaken and waste over time when he was aged four, Michael thought he would never be able to run long distances. He explained, “Raising awareness about my condition and Muscular Dystrophy UK will hopefully help others believe that they don’t need to be limited by their diagnosis. I want to help the charity continue its vital research, to help one day find a cure, and to provide more information for people who have recently been diagnosed.”
Muscular Dystrophy UK is the charity for the 110,000 children and adults living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. There's currently no cure, and it many cases, it limits lives. MDUK do vital work in funding pioneering research into treatments and cures as well as providing vital information, advice, resources and support for individuals and families living with these conditions.
All donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
