Since we met as Trinity College Oxford students 52 years ago we have both come a long way, none of it by walking. So we are now making up for it on June 9th by taking on Alfred Wainwright’s famous Coast to Coast Walk, about 200 miles from St Bees on the Irish Sea coast of Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay on the North Sea coast of Yorkshire. It's a wonderful route through the Lake District, over the Pennines and through the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors. To be completely honest we are doing what is more accurately described as the Coast to Coast 'Ramble' at a more age-appropriate pace over 16 days (see the itinerary at the foot of the page).
