Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Below are some words from our colleague who explains the impact that Molly Olly’s wishes had upon their family.
Why this charity?:
During the induction and consolidation phase patients are immune suppressant, experience sickness and diarrhoea, are fatigued physically and mentally, lose their hair and spend most of their time in hospital. For Thomas this meant missing out on all the things most kids take for granted. He was not able to go to school, see his friends, get on a bus or kick a ball around. Hospital wifi is limited so even having contact via mobile phone or social media was a nightmare.
Thomas is a crazy football fan and loves physically playing but his illness has meant that he is not able to do this. He therefore loves playing FIFA instead. However he only had a play station 4 and all his friends had upgrades which meant he could not play online with them. So not only was he isolated in hospital but also at home.
The hospital then told us about Molly Ollys and suggested we apply for one of their wishes. They aim to provide gifts to individual children up to around £500. These wishes can vary from shopping experiences, to redecorating bedrooms, flying lessons and for some like Thomas electronic equipment. They provided Thomas with not only a new Play Station 5 but also 2 new handsets and the most recent FIFA game. This has been so important in allowing him to reconnect with his friends and also gives him something to focus on when he is at home on his own.
This has improved his mental health and allows him to feel that he is still part of his friends' lives even if he can't be with them.
Along side the wishes Molly Ollys also provides toys and education for younger children. However for us the wish Thomas received was invaluable and so we feel that this is a charity that really does something real to make a difference to the lives of young people like Thomas who are going through this terrible period in their lives.
