Story
In Bangladesh, maternal mortality is the third leading cause of death. 90% of these deaths are preventable. Maa is an international grassroots charity that aims to improve maternal healthcare in resource-poor settings.
MAA is a student-founded, grassroots charity dedicated to improving the health of mothers in developing countries. We provide medicine, resources and education to these mothers, fathers and young women, in hopes of improving care and empowering the next generation. We run health camps in rural areas of Bangladesh. The mothers who attend then go on to receive follow up treatment every two months from resident doctors. We now also have 3 permanent clinics providing free checks and care! As well as a natural birthing centre in Bangladesh. With your help we can keep these running and expand into more areas to help a greater number of mothers!
This year the following University of Manchester societies have united to collectively fundraise for MAA:
- Widening Participation Medics
- Afghan Society
- Pakistani Society
- BAMEdical Society
- Scrubbed Up Organisation
