Story

Charity Supporter in Malvern rise to the Challenge of Walk the World for Save the Children UK

The Malvern Branch of Save the Children are joining volunteers across the UK to Walk the World for children and families in the UK and globally. The challenge is to walk to chosen countries highlighting the work of Save the Children. The countries include the UK, Syria, Cox’s Bazaar (Bangladesh) and Yemen.

We have chosen to walk the 2,786 miles to Syria. Our efforts will help support some of the world’s most vulnerable children here at home and around the world. As a result of Covid-19, more children are living in poverty, going hungry and unable to learn, which is why Save the Children is asking the public to get involved and help change their futures for the better..

Mandy Nicholls, the Regional Community Fundraising Manager Save the Children said, “The Covid-19 pandemic has affected everyone of us. For millions of children their lives have changed overnight as the ability to protect children and keep them safe paused, schools closed, routine healthcare stopped. Children here are also suffering from economic hardships as a direct result from the pandemic. Even before Covid-19, over 4 million children lived in poverty in the UK. Many parents have seen their incomes take a serious hit because of the pandemic, meaning even more families are now struggling

“When the crisis hit Save the Children went into action immediately carrying out life-saving work across the globe. But due to the pandemic the charity also faces challenges with its revenue expected to fall by millions of pounds this year due to volunteers being unable to raise money.

“That is why Save the Children Malvern Branch have decided to join the Walk the World Challenge for Save the Children. Supporters of all ages from octogenarians to school children will be out walking. So why not join us. If you would like to walk find out more information from our website (https://www.stcmalvern.co.uk/) or Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/STCMalvern.) You can set your own challenge; you don’t have to walk the whole distance, but whatever you do contributes to our total. Alternatively make a donation to support our efforts.”

Joan Gibson, Secretary, and Sarah Ann Bradford, Treasurer, who are both taking part in the Challenge added: “We are so grateful to everyone for supporting such an innovative idea on how to raise money in the face of the current challenges. Taking part in Walk the World will be a great way of appreciating the wonderful scenery on our doorstep and with every step knowing that we are all helping to make a difference to the lives of families that need our help, now more than ever.”
