Story
So ..... here we go again! As most of you know, Rosemere is a charity that holds a special place for me and my lovely friend and colleague Lucy Koh. I have worked in Oncology & Haematology for over 17 years and the Rosemere Cancer Foundation have supported many applications for equipment and enhancements to patient and staff areas to make Rosemere Cancer Centre a place that offers excellent patient care with state of the art equipment, all in a comfortable environment. I am very proud to work in such an amazing service and want the chance to give something back.
Lucy's journey to Cambodia has a more powerful reason. She is a Consultant Radiographer treating patients with Head & Neck Cancers, and her patients directly benefit from the many schemes supported by the Rosemere Cancer Foundation over years. Unfortunately earlier this year her partner of 22 years was diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 52 and he is now receiving treatment at the Cancer Centre where Lucy works. It was a conversation that Lucy and I had after I returned to work in September following the sad death of my dad that we talked about feeling totally helpless and how we wanted to have a positive focus and this is when we saw the Cambodia Trip. It has given us something to focus on, look forward to, train for and more importantly give back to the Rosemere Cancer Foundation. The final decision to go for it was made when we saw the date - Lucy and Paul got married on 8 November 2024 and the trip departs on their 1st wedding anniversary (we call it a sign from above to go, but you can call it an excuse to go away to an amazing part of the World for a week without our husbands if you want!!)
Lucy and I are completely self funding and every penny that you generously give will go direct to the charity. We have a lot of training to do, will have to get over our fear of scorpions and walk for 8 days through the jungle so please, please give anything that you can afford, I promise the money will be spent making patients cancer journey more comfortable and give us access to state of the art equipment for patients across Lancashire & South Cumbria.
