In Cornwall, we are incredibly lucky to have dolphins and porpoises off our shores. But, unless we protect them, they could vanish from our waters. With Cornwall due to have it's busiest summer ever, our dolphins and porpoises are at increased risk.

Story

Hi everyone. Please could I just take up a few minutes of your time!😊

For the past few months I have been in the process of training for a big charity swim, for a couple of very worthwhile causes! (More on those in a minute!) Due to a few logistical issues, unfortunately I have had to tweak my initial plans. However, I am really hopefull people will still get behind the fundraising!🤞

During the month of September, I am going to be attempting to swim 21 miles in open water (the same distance as crossing the English channel) in as few swims as logistical possible. (As will be working full time also!) With my final swim being the longest, which will be a minimum of 10km and finishing on Looe Beach.

Alongside this, a small handful of my elite swim students from Looe Swimming Club (all aged between 14 and 15) are also going to be attempting to swim the same 21 miles in the pool, as a team, in a 'one off' effort, which as you can imagine, will be a huge undertaking for them as well!!

The first charity I am raising money for is the Cornwall Wildlife Trust. This charity carry out some incredible work around the beautiful county of Cornwall, not only caring for all our local dolphins porpoises and land based wild animals that so many visitors flock to see, but are also cleaning up our shorelines and creating awareness around plastic pollution and the damage it causes to the local ecosystems! As you can imagine, with a huge increase in tourist numbers, this work is more important than ever!

The second charity is the MS Society. One of my school students unfortunately lost her dad with the disease in January 2020. However despite this loss, she has since raised lots of money in his memory and I would like to not only continue topping up her fundraising efforts, but also raise money for this great charity in helping others in a similar situation and helping to treat the disease in the future!

I will keep you regularly posted on mine and the swim teams progress, but I would really appreciate anything you can donate. All I ask is that you please spread the donations across the 2 charities as evenly as possible!!

Your support is much appreciated!

Many thanks, Mark x 🏊‍♂️👍

About the charity

Nature in Cornwall is trouble. But we know it has the remarkable ability to recover when given the chance. Cornwall Wildlife Trust works hard to provide that chance - so we can create a Cornwall where nature once again thrives.
