Story
On December 19th 2011 following a 12 hour labour our Little Loan was born sleeping. At my 12 week scan it was evident that our baby was not well and their little body was not forming how expected. We were referred to a specialist in Norwich where we discovered it could be a number of things and just hoped for the best. At a follow up scan at almost 20 weeks my amniotic fluid had started to go and they told us there was nothing more they could do for our baby. I was induced at 8am on the 19th December 2011 not fully comprehending what a long heartbreaking day lay ahead of us. I was placed in a private room on a nornal ward as this was the ‘done’ thing at the time for pre 24 weeks. I cannot fault the care received from my community midwife and the nurse at the QE however having a specialist suite to be taken care of and make the only memories you can ever make with your baby is the most valuable thing to try and make the most difficult day of your life that little bit easier. Little Loan was due on the 2nd June 2012 and to mark the ten year anniversary my dear friend Terri and I will be cycling 100 miles in a day, ten for each year! The ride will take place on Wednesday 1st June 2012. Please support us if you can.
The money raised will be going directly to the QE maternity bereavement suite. The idea of the Maternity Bereavement Suite is to provide a dedicated and welcoming facility for families from our community who sadly lose their babies either during, or shortly after, birth and give them the opportunity to create precious memories.
Having an allocated facility will make such a positive difference to the experience of our parents when they are going through their most difficult time after their loss.
This development will help these families to spend time with their babies in a more homely environment away from the maternity suite.
