Story
This page has been set up to honor the memory of Liam Leggatt. A much loved and missed Son, Brother, Uncle, Grandchild, Nephew, Cousin and Friend.
We will continue to fundraise in order to raise awareness of BDD and Suicide.
Liam unfortunately experienced BDD (Body Dysmorphic Disorder) since a teenager, but these symptoms became more severe in the couple of years before he took his own life at just 25 years old on 14th June 2022.
Not enough is known about BDD and there is only one charity globally that aims to support research into the understanding and treatment of it.
Suicide is the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.
We would therefore like to support the following charities in his memory:
-The BDD Foundation. Their aim is to relieve the suffering for people with BDD, while advancing research, treatments and awareness of the condition. The term Body Dysmorphic Disorder describes a disabling preoccupation with perceived defects or flaws in appearance. It can affect all genders, and makes sufferers excessively self-conscious. Onlookers are frequently perplexed because they can see nothing out of the ordinary, but BDD causes devastating distress and interferes substantially with the ability to function socially.
-The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), who are united against suicide. CALM run a free and confidential helpline and webchat 7 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone who needs to talk about life's problems.
