Story
We are Team "Les Franglos", and we have come together to help others and remember loved ones. Each of us has a story to tell. Please take time to read them below.

I never expected to hear the words "I'm sorry" at *that* consultation. But I consider myself fortunate. I had a great surgeon and oncologist, a caring team of nurses, supportive colleagues (both mine and Mike's) and just out-of-this-world brilliant group of family and friends who were there for us throughout 2024 from all corners of the world. To all of you, know that I am forever grateful for every message you've sent to check up on us, distract me, raise my spirits, and making me smile with all those flowers and care packages (for some, at a time when things were difficult for you too). Thank you. 2025 brings me a new start, and as I regain my mobility and strength it seemed like a perfect opportunity to give something back to the charities that helped me. Your donation funds the amazing support that Macmillan provides up and down the country, for people just like me.

No one can ever prepare you for the shock of being told you have cancer which for me was in 2019. But with a positive mindset throughout and with the wonderful support of my husband, family and friends I got through it. To my dear sister who travelled a round trip of 230 miles every 3 weeks when I had chemotherapy to be with me to support me, my husband for looking after our 3/4 year old son. I could have gone down a different route with my treatment but I chose to get a second opinion and what a difference that made, a different cancer team who were so supportive and positive all the way. Supporting Macmillan via this great event is my way of thanking them for all they do for the many thousands of people going through cancer. By doing this 13 mile walk is a goal for me to keep my wellbeing going from strength to strength.
Emmanuelle
I'm Emmanuelle, married and mum of 4. Following the passing of my mother 20 years ago, I became deeply aware of the importance of support—not only for those who are ill but also for those who stand by their side and for those who mourn their loss. Though two decades have passed, the pain has never faded. Coming from a high-risk family myself, as a mother and as a pediatric nurse, this cause is especially close to my heart. Too often, we focus on the fight against illness but forget the immense burden carried by caregivers and grieving loved ones. Taking part in this fundraising effort is my way of honoring my mother’s memory and ensuring that no one facing these hardships feels alone. Every donation is a gesture of hope and solidarity, helping to support those in need and ease the burden of those who stand beside them.

I have often felt helpless to my friends and many family members sadly affected by cancer. Thinking of my mum, my auntie, my “Mamie”, my cousin, all of whom I wish I could have done more to support. Your donation goes to MacMillan, to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support.

Shock and admiration best define my feelings around cancer. The shock of hearing that some of my loved ones have been diagnosed with cancer, and the admiration when I see them committed to a battle they didn't get to choose. Cancer has affected two very important women close to me, my Granny who is not with us anymore and my mother-in-law who is living with cancer. Taking part in this walk and fundraising effort is my way to give them a massive shout out for their incredible courage, and to support Macmillan's brilliant work.
