Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We will be hiking up Scafell Pike for the charity ARC.
The main reason we are taking part in this walk is in memory of Baby Leo.
Gemma found out she was pregnant at the end of last year (2019). We were so excited for baby Quartermaine. Sadly at her 20 week scan, Gemma found out her baby had lots of abnormalities and was likely to have Edwards syndrome (which we have now found out was not the case). Gemma had to make the most heartbreaking decision and on the 19th May 2020, Gemma had an injection in her stomach. On the 21st May 2020, we went into the snowdrop room at Northampton General Hospital at 10am. Gemma had her first tablet at 12pm to induce labour and her second at 6pm. Contractions started at 7pm and a long night of pain started. Gemma was so amazing and brave and myself and Gemma's partner Dan held her hand every step of the way. Baby Leo was born 22nd May 2020 at 6.57am. We love him with all our hearts ❤
ARC is the only national charity helping parents and healthcare professionals through antenatal screening and its consequences
Around 800,000 women in the UK become pregnant each year. More than 40,000 will be told there is a chance their baby has a genetic or structural condition. Naturally, this can cause a great deal of anxiety and uncertainty. Most parents will ultimately be reassured the pregnancy is progressing as expected. Sadly, some will receive the devastating news that their baby has a serious, sometimes lethal condition or might be told that the outlook is very uncertain.
ARC offers non-directive information and support to parents before, during and after antenatal screening; when they are told their baby has an anomaly; when they are making difficult decisions about continuing with or ending a pregnancy, and when they are coping with complex and painful issues after making a decision, including bereavement.
Gemma has been fundraising for ARC over the past few months and this charity has been supportive through this difficult time for her.
Thank you for reading and donating if possible.
