Story
In March we lost my uncle, Alan, after a short illness. At Christmas my father, John, Alan’s older brother also received news of a return of a historic cancer. My father is currently undergoing treatment and making good progress.
Their mother, Catherine (Kay), died of breast cancer 20 years ago.
Unfortunately this story is not uncommon.
I am aiming to raise money by taking part in the Leamington Spa Half Marathon on 23rd June 2024. In running I hope to support two incredibly important charities, Cancer Research UK, and one lesser-known Warwickshire-based charity: The Myton Hospices. Further information is available on these charities below.
If you can donate, no matter how small, both these charities and I will be very grateful. Of course, please select the charity of your choice, but my aim is to split my fundraising 50:50 between two important charities
Myton Hospice
The Myton Hospices are leaders in compassionate end of life care; their three hospices in Warwickshire focus on enhancing life when cure is no longer an option; supporting people living with a terminal illness, and their families, from the point of diagnosis to end of life.
Cancer Research UK
Over the last 40 years, cancer survival in the UK has doubled. In the 1970s just 1 in 4 people survived their disease for 10 years or more. Today 2 in 4 survive and Cancer Research UK’s ambition is to accelerate progress and see 3 in 4 patients surviving the disease by 2034.
Their pioneering work into how to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer has benefitted millions of lives over the past 120 years.
