Story

Despite years of obesity, in 2025 I am running the London Marathon in aid of The Children's Trust in Tadworth.

The Children's Trust is an incredible rehabilitation centre for children with brain injurys. Unfortunately, in the spring of 2019 we came to know the centre on a personal level.

On February 7th 2019, as a family we where due to fly to my brothers wedding in New Zealand, but on February 4th at 16 years old, Zac, my nephew, suffered from a bleed on the brain and a subsequent stroke.

Our world was turned upside down, we spent the next month at St George's in Tooting with Zac in a coma and no guarantee he would come round, and if he did there was little hope he would have any quality of life.

Zac came round at St Georges and thats when the path to recovery started, he couldn't talk, walk or eat. Everything was taken away from him and it was on him and us to get it back.

That's when The Children's Trust came in, Zac was transferred their direct from St George's, and from day one the level of care was incredible.

Zac was surrounded by not only a great care team, but other children on similar paths, the children drew strength from each other and formed life long bonds.

During his time at the trust, Zac had a full range of rehab including aqua physio, speech and language therapy, physio and much more. Each child follows a bespoke rehabilitation program, the care is delivered on an exceptional level and with compassion. It was not only Zac who was made to feel welcome, the centre made all our family feel at home and helped us through the hardest time in our lives.

Zac turned up to the Children's trust with little to no independence, wheelchair bound and unable to eat. Since leaving his life is unrecognisable, he has passed his t levels and driving test, he is an ambassador for the children's trust and regularly does speeches on their behalf, most recently he got a job in the motorsport industry, his dream prior to all of this happening, this is not only a show of his unbelievable strength and ability to draw positivity from even the darkest of times, but is a testament to The Children's Trust and the life they built back around a 16 year old boy who had lost everything.

I will never forget Zac's time at The Children's Trust or the people who cared for him as if he was one of their own, they gave Zac his independence and a platform to grow.

Running this marathon for this great charity is a true honour, I would greatly appreciate any donations, and you can be sure they are going to a great place.
