Story

Working with children at Kids Planet Mablins Lane allows us to see and hear about all the support that Alder Hey can give, and has already given, to so many families in the local area including children that we care for. In 2021 the team, along with the children and families at KP Mablins Lane, all supported our local hospital in Crewe by fundraising for their Children's Emergency Care appeal. We wanted to take on a bigger challenge this year and we would appreciate all the support we can get to take on this mammoth task! Although it is some of the staff team that will be undertaking the 5km Born Survivor military assault course we will be involving all the children and team in preschool and out of school club. We have lots of muddy activities to take part in with them along with lots of physical activities to build up our strength and stamina. Thank you for reading our story and helping us to help others!

In Autumn 2021 Alder Hey Childrens Charity launched a £2.5m Surgical Neonatal Appeal, supported by Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher. The new Surgical Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is a joint project between Alder Hey and Liverpool Womens NHS Foundation Trust.

The planned unit will address a shared concern between the hospital Trusts that newborn babies who need specialist surgery currently have to be transferred to Alder Hey to get the care they need, before being transferred back to Liverpool Womens Hospital to continue their neonatal care after surgery has been completed. The new unit will allow all surgical neonatal care to be provided from Alder Hey rather than between multiple facilities, which has multiple benefits for the baby and the families.

The planned facility will cost £16.5m to build with the Charity Appeal planning to contribute £2.5m.
