Story
We will be walking 20 km along the Kennet and Avon Canal and fundraising for our local MNDA support group, Reading and West Berkshire for our inspirational client, Colin, he has had MND for several years and with the help of this local support group, nurses and his team of carers from the local and independent Care Partners, he is trying his best to continue to live a fulfilling life and we would like to ensure that everyone that needs it, gets the same care and support Colin has received.
With MND, messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles. This leads the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste. MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. Some people also experience changes to their thinking and behaviour. However, MND affects everyone differently. Not all symptoms will affect everyone, or in the same order. Symptoms also progress at varying speeds, which makes the course of the disease difficult to predict.
MND is life-shortening and there is no cure. Although the disease will progress, symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life and that is what the charity aims to do.
