Story
Jayne was a much loved daughter, mam, sister and auntie.
Jayne was first diagnosed with cancer back in 2017. She was incredibly resilient having gone through multiple surgeries and treatments to try and keep her illness at bay. Unfortunately she finally lost her fight on the 26th February 2024.
Jayne had a few spells at the Marie curie hospice in Newcastle in the final year of her life. At first she was reluctant to go there, as in her mind 'a hospice was a place people went to die'. Once she was there she realized it couldn't have been further from the truth.
The hospice helped her to try and come to terms with what was happening and what would be to come in the following months. When she returned home the hospice carried on helping by organizing carers for her at home, the hospice came to pick her up every Tuesday to go back there and attend an 'arts and crafts' day, which she looked forward to going to every week. When the time came for mam to decide where she would like to be cared for in her final weeks, she chose the Marie curie hospice. To change somebody's view of 'no I'm not going there' to be the place that they want to be when the time comes, is a true testiment to what an amazing facility it is and how truly incredible the staff are.
We will be doing numerous events this year to try and raise money for this incredible charity so they are able to keep providing the invaluable support to future patients and families, as they have done with us.
