Story

Adam Walsh is doing it again...but he’s not alone this time.

In September, Adam will be cycling 212 miles from the Severn Bridge to the Humber Bridge in just two days and he’ll have some guests joining him along the route!

As he and his fellow cyclists travel from one bridge to another, Adam (and John Good Group) will be supporting The Sailors’ Children’s Society, a charity with very close ties to the maritime industry! All the money raised will make a positive impact on the families and children, whether that be providing children with school uniforms, providing families with respite breaks or providing children with access to extracurricular activities and the kits needed for them.

The money raised from this page will be double matched up to a value of £2,000 by our incredible Employee Giving Programme. This means that for every £1 raised, the John Good Group will double it.

Sailors’ Children’s Society is dedicated to offering continuous assistance to children whose parents are employed in the Maritime industry and are facing distressing circumstances, such as the loss of a loved one, terminal illness diagnosis, or marital relationship breakdowns. Supporting a remarkable charity like this, which provides essential aid to the families within the industries we engage with, holds great significance.

Natasha Barley, CEO of Sailors’ Children’s Society, shares her support for Adam saying, “Last year Adam took on an epic challenge to raise funds for charities called Bridge2Bridge. Cycling from Liverpool to Hull in one day! The training and dedication that went into doing this were truly remarkable and he raised a huge amount which was split between three charities close to his heart. Sailors’ Children’s Society being one of them. The funding helped us to support children growing up in poverty with basics such as food, school uniforms and winter clothing. A huge thank you to Adam for his support.”

Adam shares his excitement for the event, “Here we go… again! I couldn’t resist taking on the challenge in 2024 and trying to conquer the route from the Severn Bridge to the Humber Bridge again.

This year’s a little different though, in that I’m being joined by some other peddlers (soon to be announced!), and to make the ride a little more inclusive, we’ve decided to do it over two days, rather than the single day ride, which I did solo in 2023. It’ll be great to have some company whilst we cover all those miles.

We’re raising money for Sailor’s Children Society again this year. They’re an amazing charity that does so much for maritime families in times of hardship and distress. Every pound makes such a difference, so the more we can raise, the better. The Matthew Good Foundation will also double match any sponsorship, so there’s a real incentive for us to raise as much as possible.

Last year I raised ~£8,000 in total, so it would be great to see if we can surpass the £10,000 mark as a team. Every penny makes all those sore miles worth it!”

So, mark your calendars for September's ride, where Adam and others will be pedalling away for the best part of 20 hours to raise funds for an incredible charity!
