Story
The Team are Joey's Grandparents Graeme & Jean Cassie and family friends Louise and Iona Clapperton.
We are all walking 500 miles each to raise money for the charities that have helped Joey in his journey so far. Joey was born in December but he did not come into the world alone. He has a rare brain tumour and was operated on at 10 days old to remove it, he has since had a second operation which have both gone well. He is currently on a chemotherapy course which will last until at least the end of June 2021.
The care Joey has received in the Edinburgh Sick Children's hospital has been second to none and we would like to help enable them continue to give this excellent care to Joey and the other children that need it both now and in the future.
They have all done a great job at the hospital with skill and knowledge founded on research supported by CCLG (Childrens Cancer and Leukaemia Group). We have therefore created a named charity in Joey's name with CCLG to raise much needed funds for research into congenital glioblastoma.
Joey's family have also had help from CLIC Sargent whose care teams are on hand to help families cope with everything related to the upset and hardship that cancer treatment throws at you.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Update
27th June 2021 - We did it!!!. Each team member has completed at least 500 miles which is a total of over 2000 miles between us.
It has taken 21 weeks, with lots of laughter and a few tears. We have walked across the Pentland hills, around several reservoirs, through many woodlands and over and around lots of fields. We started on 2nd February 2021 just before the snow fell in earnest, but that didn't stop us. Just as Joey has battled through his gruelling treatment.
I cannot thank everyone enough who have donated or supported with your kind words of encouragement.
Joey has done so well and only recently had a dip where his treatment has had to be delayed. He is in hospital as we speak and we hope to know whether or not more treatment is required soon.
So little is known about brain tumours and the treatment really has not changed for quite a long time. That is why I ask again if you are able to donate to help these fabulous charities continue their work ,both for Joey and my family and also for all the other families out there going through this relentless worry, please do.
I will keep this page open for another month by which time we hope to have good news! I will share come what may but as our personal challenge is now complete I will then close this page.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Jean and Team Joey XX
