Story

Update- thank you for all the support and donations, today me and Jacob completed the half marathon in 2hour 21- photos form the run have been added to the media gallery on Alice’s page (couldn’t add them to here for some reasons)

Alice- I have chosen to take on the London landmarks half marathon for the charity Whizz Kids which provides life enhancing equipment to disabled children in the UK. In April 2022 my life changed forever out of the blue on a school ski trip, I never expected to become disabled especially not so young. It had always seemed like something that doesn’t happen to you or someone you know. It was a huge shock for me and completely turned my life upside down. I’m now a paraplegic and use a wheelchair full time and over the past 3 year have managed to build a new life for myself. Getting the right wheelchair has been a big part of helping me get back to life.

I have never done anything like this before. I have chosen to take on this challenge both to prove to myself that that day doesn’t define what’s possible for me and to support this great charity that helps truly helps to change the lives of disabled children all over the UK. I understand first hand how devastating becoming disabled can be but with the right wheelchair and medical equipment it doesn’t have to mean your life is over.

Jacob- I’ve decided to support Alice by running the London Landmarks Half Marathon with her. Alice and I have known each other for most of our lives, we grew up together and have always been very close. During our childhood we would always go out together, usually playing football or riding our bikes. Alice was always very active.

Alice becoming paralysed was a shock to me and all of her friends. It made me realise that this sort of thing can happen to anyone. I am proud to be supporting Alice by running the half marathon with her, and to show her that being paralysed won’t hold her back.

The cause- A wheelchair is the key to getting out in a world that would otherwise be impossible for some to access. One of the biggest issues with getting mobility equipment is how much it costs, this leads to many people being unable to get the equipment they need to live their best lives. Money shouldn’t have to be a factor when it comes to how you move and that’s one of the main reasons why we chose this charity.

Please consider donating any amount is appreciated and truly helps to make a difference to disabled children’s lives.
