Story
Over a period of five days in February, me and my team will be swimming in the wilds of Snowdonia in mountain streams, lakes and the sea and in slightly less wild places in Oxfordshire.
Why do I want to do it?
‘My aunt had dementia and my mother, who is now almost 90 has had dementia for ten years. I have seen just how much care is needed from families and from professional carers alike. I’d like to give back to all those who work long hours, especially now, when we see the NHS and care homes struggling to find staff. Our courses at Dementia Carers Count and on-line support and careline are vital tools for those who are finding it hard to cope. DCC is a lifeline for so many people. I want to make sure that our work continues so we can be there for even more people.’
