The climate crisis is leaving people hungry, homeless and desperate. People like Rose are struggling to survive without a reliable source of water. From drought to flooding, climate chaos robs people of control over their lives. "I often feel hungry", Rose says. "Because of climate change, I worry a lot about food. I pray to God that the rainfall will become normal like it used to be." The coronavirus pandemic has only made this lack of water more critical for Rose. Without water for handwashing, it is a struggle to stay safe from the virus.
Coronavirus means that again this year our Inverness Christian Aid Group of 24 churches cannot hold any of the sociable events we usually do (door-to-door collections, coffee mornings, soup and sandwich lunches and so on). However the need is even greater this year with Covid-19, added to climate change, hitting the poorest nations hard. In normal years, people in the Inverness area generously donate over £20,000 during Christian Aid Week. Can we do it again? I hope so!
If you are a taxpayer, please do fill in the Gift Aid details to allow Christian Aid to reclaim the tax on your donation. This increases the value of your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you. You may think that 25% of your donation will make no difference, but if everyone gift-aided who could, the poor people of the world would gain an extra £2 million. Please, please do it!
