Story
In September 2023 the challenge is to get our salvaged Ford Focus to Barcelona and back to raise funds for Martha Trust , a charity that provides care for those with profound disabilities and multiple learning difficulties as well as essential support to their families.
Who said fundraising is boring? Aside from the adventure of finding our way to Barcelona (maps only no Sat Nav) we also need to get our trusty Ford Focus roadworthy and ready to roll.
Having been off the road for quite a few years there is plenty to do but we have been assured that we won’t find a more reliable chariot and as the winner of the 1999 European Car of the Year Award its surely is the only choice .
Our aim is to raise £2,000 and get our names listed among the great Focus drivers in history; Colin McRea, Carlos Sainz, Markko Martin, Jeremy Clarkson, and Lilly Allen. It’s not a race….but it’s definitely a race!
Meet the Team
Marc
Bringing to the team absolutely zero competence at anything mechanical, an inability to navigate anywhere and having previously crashed his old Focus several times, Marc is the equivalent to the ‘other one’ on Bullseye that can’t play darts but is good at answering questions. At some point there will be something to do that he is good at.
Rich
Driving 9 to 5 is how he makes a living, but barely getting by its all revving and overheating. A huge Dolly Parton fan, the team are completely reliant on this man doing anything and everything needed to get them on the road and ready to complete their mission. Can he fix it? We certainly hope so!
Our Focus
Born in the good old 1990s back when Des’ree was singing ‘You gotta be’, having clocked up a mere 120,000 miles, our reliable family 5 door hatchback, is absolutely committed to this challenge and prepared to do whatever is necessary to cross the finish line.
