Story
The Challenge
Taking place Wednesday 2nd December (rain or shine!), Dave and Paul will be teeing off at dawn at Abergele Golf Club and won’t stop golfing for 72 holes… that’s four rounds of the course! Daylight and weather are both against them… but we’re sure with your support they’ll make it!
Who’s Involved?
David Longworth and Paul Birch are active golfers at Abergele Golf Club. Dave, a Boltonian and keen golfer has been a member upwards of 30 years. Paul was a junior at Abergele Golf Club and has been back at the club as a golfing member for just over a year.
Dave and Paul planned to take on this challenge earlier in May this year, but it was postponed due to lockdown restrictions. Because of the pandemic, Cancer Research UK, St Kentigern's Hospice and Marie Curie and many other charities have all been affected by reduced donations.
Abergele Golf Club, where the challenge will take place, is delighted to support their members Dave and Paul in their fundraising for these fantastic charities. As the golf club is located next to Gwrych Castle (the home of I’m a Celebrity 2020), ITV Studios are also supporting this challenge.
The Charities
Dave and Paul have selected Marie Curie, Cancer Research UK and St Kentigern’s Hospice to support. The first two, in particular, are close to Dave personally, and are sadly all too close to many of us. St Kentigern’s is a fantastic local charity – their hospice provides care and support for patients with life limiting illnesses across North East Wales. Given the challenges we have all faced across 2020, there have been significant fundraising difficulties for all three of these charities, so we’re delighted that Dave and Paul have stepped up to the mark and will be golfing to raise as much as possible.
Both Dave and Paul are asking for your support in this challenge to fundraise as much as possible. Their fundraising target is £10,000, but together, we can do this!
