About:
Hospice Africa is a charity set up in Uganda by Dr Anne Merriman which provides palliative care to patients and palliative care training to providers across the continent of Africa. Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Hospice Africa has been providing palliative care and affordable morphine to HIV/AIDS and cancer patients which has massively improved their quality of life and allowed these patients to live free of pain and at peace.
Hospice Africa's Vision:
Palliative Care for all in need in Africa.
Access to palliative care is fundamental to health and human dignity and is a basic human right. However, still many individuals do not access adequate care and the future of Hospice Africa is in jeopardy without adequate funding.
Here are just some of the examples that the UK, and other entities in Ireland, France, Australia, and the USA are vital for the support of: Teaching nurses and doctors in palliative care ethos and practices (10,000 medical staff trained) . Medical equipment, clinic services, rural home visits, daycare, paying staff. Manufacturing and production of affordable morphine.
