Story
Hello! We are the Hoogah Team! You usually catch us on Brynymor, but this time it's the Brecon Beacons. We are swapping out our cafe environment for a rocky terrain (a mountainous morning coffee for a change), and climbing Pen Y Fan for Maggie's Charity in Swansea.
Maggie's Swansea is a charity which provides a copious amount of support to people with cancer in the local area. They provide support in any way needed, such as; emotional support, support for families, financial support, as well as being a reliable space to lean on for the individual through their incredibly tough time.
Maggie's help over 23,000 people in the UK annually. Cancer affects 1 in 2 people throughout life, and touches everyone in different ways. This is such a tremendous cause, and a cause that is close to all of our hearts at Hoogah.
Throughout the pandemic, Maggie's operated in all kinds of ways. If not face to face, they were happy to provide one to one phone, skype, facetime and email support. An online community is also available, run by psychologists, cancer support specialists and benefit advisors. Here, people can reach out and ask questions and keep in contact if they are continuing to stay at home. therefore catering for the needs of everyone.
In order to acknowledge the necessity and amazing work of this cause not only throughout Swansea, but the UK too, we have decided to trek Pen Y Fan at sunrise on the 30th of August 2021. Through the dark (hopefully clear) morning, we will replace our pillows with torches, first aid kits, orange t-shirts and most importantly our snacks to venture to the peak of South Wale's highest point! The first time sheep will be seen by most of our team at 6am in the morning!
In honour of all that Maggie's do, we welcome donations with open arms & appreciate anything you can donate to us.
Thanks for taking the time to read about us & Maggie's amazing work.
Catch us on Pen Y Fan summit @ dawn.
