Story
The Hopkins family continue to raise money for the BHF in memory of our beloved Paul and David.
Our fund raising journey started due to the tragic passing of Paul. Despite the many challenges he faced, he was an inspirational young man who had an uncompromising positive outlook. He was kind and his instantly infectious personality is one of the many reasons he was loved by so many. Paul was born with a heart condition but he didn’t let it hold him back, living his life to the absolute fullest and the British Heart Foundation was an obvious choice when I decided to start fundraising in his name 10 years ago.
I’ve no doubt he would be proud to have money raised to fund research into cures and treatments of a disease which had such a big impact on his life.
Sadly, we also raise money in memory of David. Paul's younger brother was also taken too soon. Dave was a young man with an appetite for adventure, lived life to the fullest and did it all with a smile. A kind and thoughtful individual who's presence was calming. He had the Hopkins charm in abundance and his character was loved by many.
It is in their memory that we continue to raise as much money as possible for the British Heart Foundation.
The fundraising efforts started 13 years ago with a modest 5-a-side touch rugby tournament held at their beloved Mold Rugby Club. Which I’m proud to say is now in it’s 12th year and has gone from strength to strength. It is the first date in the calendar for players, spectators, family and friends, it will be held on Saturday 29th July 2023 this year. Please make every effort to attend and show your support for what is an amazing day for all.
We are also undertaking a charity bike ride challenge which started in 2021. 19 riders completed the 220 mile cycle from Buckingham palace to Mold Rugby Club and raised an incredible £21,689!
The challenge doesn't end there.....
A group of charity cyclists will cycle from each of the remaining UK capitals to Mold Rugby Club in the coming three years with the goal of raising 100K!
2023 - Edinburgh
2024 - Belfast
2025 - Cardiff
Next up its Edinburgh, the longest cycle with over 16,000ft of elevation - more than x4.5 mount Snowdon’s.
The British Heart Foundation have been fundraising for 60 years and have helped fund breakthroughs like heart transplants, pacemakers, stents and clot-busting drugs and they’ve got ambitious plans for the next 60 years too. Cures for inherited heart diseases, radically improved treatments for strokes, ways to stop vascular dementia in its tracks and of course, recovering from the brutal blow that is the Covid-19 pandemic are all part of their future goals so your support is more vital than ever before.
If you are able to donate financially then please add Gift Aid to your donation. This makes your donation worth 25% more automatically and doesn’t cost you an extra penny.
Any social media coverage you are able to give will only boost our cause further so please utilise Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and get sharing with all of your friends and family.
Thank you for all for your support and see you at the finish line!
