Story
They've been training hard, and now Hermione and Wendy are just 10 days away from their epic trek to Colombia's Lost City of Teyuna in aid of Salisbury District Hospital's Stars Appeal.
Wendy says:
I'm taking on this challenge as a way to give something back to the Stars Appeal. Having sustained a spinal injury during a solo sky-diving accident in 1991, I have received ongoing care and support from the Stars Appeal funded Spinal Unit at Salisbury Hospital. They have shown a tremendous amount of commitment and support whenever I have been in need. From referrals to urology, physiotherapy and podiatry, to guidance and support with the neuropathic pain I experience, the Spinal Unit have enabled me to manage the challenges of my injury in a dignified way, and live my life to the full.
Hermione says:
I originally signed up, almost 5 years ago, to the Stars Appeal Trek to Petra in 2022. A few weeks before departure I got Covid and was unable to join the trek, due to the fatigue and weakness this caused. I committed then to joining Trek 2024 and I have worked hard to regain my strength and fitness. I started volunteering for Salisbury Hospital's radio station, Radio Odstock, 8 years ago and I have seen for myself some of the amazing work that the Stars Appeal fund, from things as simple as free Wi-Fi, all the way to brand new MRI scanners and the dedicated Pembroke Suite cancer unit.
Any amount of sponsorship will be gratefully received by us and the Stars Appeal and the money we raise really makes a huge difference in the lives of patients and staff at our amazing hospital.
