Helen Sarah Yoga is offering monthly online Vinyasa Yoga classes in support of Birmingham and Solihull Headway and Birmingham Mind. I’ve chosen these charities as two which are both related to my own personal experience of yoga, directly or indirectly. They do incredible work to support people with brain injuries and with their mental health.

I came across Birmingham and Solihull Headway after a cycling accident which left me with concussion. Headway helped me to make sense of and accept what I was going through during this time, and the story of one women in particular who had had a similar experience at a similar age, gave me hope. It was reassuring to know that I was not the only one in this situation and that there at the end of the phone who could understand.
Supporting our mental health is one of the many benefits of yoga. I’ve come to really value this over the last few years. Yoga helps to calm the mind allowing us to properly rest and revitalise, something which can be challenging at times in today’s busy society, particularly with the worries of the global pandemic not far away. Although it’s encouraging that we’re starting to talk more about mental health, it is still often misunderstood and sadly poor mental health can go unnnoticed. Birmingham Mind do some really important work to support people in our community in this area.
