Story
Welcome to the Helena Ward Team! #TeamRUH
My name is Rosie Lloyd, I’m a Senior Sister on the Helena Ward here at the Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH). At Helena Ward we take care of patients with:
Long Term Neurological conditions such as Motor Neurone Disease and Multiple Sclerosis.
Traumatic injuries such as Brain Injuries and Spinal Cord Injuries.
Acute neurological conditions such as Guillain Barre Syndrome and Encephalitis.
There are over 620,000 people in the catchment area who benefit from these services at the RUH.
Myself and my wonderful work colleagues on Helena Ward, including Doctors, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Clinical Nurse Specialists and administrative staff , have decided to take part in the virtual My Walk of Life Marathon event and challenge ourselves to walk the distance of a marathon (26.2 miles to be exact!) throughout September to raise funds for The Forever Friends Appeal – the fundraising charity for the hospital.
Each and every day, we spend so much time on our feet walking to various wards and departments at the hospital, and to and from patients. Therefore, we have decided to take on the challenge of walking a marathon by capture our steps during our busy shifts and raise some money to improve patient experience on Helena ward.
We would like to raise funds towards an outdoor area for Neurology patients to enjoy, be this for therapy sessions or to spend time with their families during visiting. Neurology patients often have a longer stay in hospital than patients in other specialities so having an outdoor area for them to enjoy would aid their recovery and have a positive impact on their physical and emotional wellbeing.
Each member of our team is hoping to raise £100! So please help spread the word about what we are doing with your friends, families and colleagues and support us with a donation if you can.
Now more than ever, your support means so much to us.
Thank you!
