Story
We are thrilled to be participating in the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024 to raise funds for the incredible charity, Masicorp UK. The event, on October 13th holds great significance as we aim to support the community of Masiphumelele near Cape Town in South Africa. This township of 40,000 people has faced severe disadvantages due to the historical legacy of apartheid and the slow pace of reform since its end in 1994. Masicorp has been a beacon of hope since its establishment in 1999, working tirelessly to provide expanded educational opportunities and skills development initiatives for both children and adults in Masiphumelele. Their approach is rooted in respect and empowerment, always seeking input from the community on their needs and aspirations. Residents have expressed a desire for a hand up, not a handout, recognising education as the pathway out of poverty. The vision is clear - to ensure that all residents have access to quality education, training, advice, and support. Through collaborative efforts with community leaders and other non-profits, Masicorp has built a framework that fosters progress towards sustainable livelihoods through various programs spanning early childhood development to professional skills training, including nurseries, schools, and a library. Our goal is to contribute towards this vision by raising £1,200 through this half marathon event. Your support will make a tangible difference in helping the people of Masiphumelele break free from the cycle of poverty.
