Raising money for Mesothelioma UK and St Peter's Hospice

Story

Hello! I have had an ambition of doing the London marathon for a good few years now, and to be honest I was starting to think the moment had passed, but then I was successful in the ballot so here I am!

I am running the marathon in memory of my Dad who we lost 18 years ago and I would love to raise money for 2 wonderful charities - Mesothelioma UK and St Peter's Hospice and below is some information about the charities.

As I am raising money for two charities I had to link two pages into a team, please click on either link at the bottom of the page under the team member details to donate.

Mesothelioma UK is the national charity for anyone affected by mesothelioma (asbestos cancer). They exist to support people with mesothelioma to live better and live longer and to prevent mesothelioma happening to future generations. They do this by advocating for better treatment and care, enhancing quality of life, supporting research and amplifying the patient’s voice. Mesothelioma UK's focus since their foundation has been to provide access to specialist nurses at the point of need, in local hospitals across the UK.

They also provide a number of other services to support anyone affected by mesothelioma, including a Freephone Support Line, two specialist benefits advisors, a travel grant to support the cost of accessing clinical trials, a dedicated research centre and a comprehensive information service accredited by the Patient Information Forum. They also work closely with partner organisations to raise awareness of asbestos and to shine a light on the devastating impact of mesothelioma.

St Peter's Hospice is Bristol's only adult Hospice and has been serving the communities of the greater Bristol area since 1978 and every year they make a difference in the lives of thousands of patients and their families when it matters most.

Whether that is help managing pain, bereavement support or providing relief from symptoms, the hospice team works 24/7 to support individuals and families as they navigate the challenges of living with a life limiting illness. Inpatient Unit is a state of the art centre of clinical excellence, that was built with the generous support of the people of Bristol. Beyond our Inpatient Unit, you'll find team in homes and on the phone 24/7. However, despite being a front line service, only 22% of our funding comes from the NHS and the rest is raised in our community.

Any donation, no matter the size will help and make a difference to these charities. Thank you so much xxxxx
