Story
On the 23rd March my brother (Zak) and I are participating in the Sheffield Half Marathon in memory of our late father (John) who passed away this time last year. On the 28th September 2023, my father and I went to the Northern General hospital for a scan of his lungs.
Upon receiving the first scan, a doctor came to speak to us in a frantic manner explaining they may have found a tumour. Alone, my dad and I sat in the hospital with the weight of the world on his shoulders. The next day on my 16th birthday, we found out he had terminal lung cancer and had 6 months to live.
From that point on, myself, my brother, uncle, and aunt cared for him as his condition increasingly got worse travelling from all around the country to support him. Just after Christmas day, an ambulance was called by my uncle due to my father’s critical condition.
After months in the Northern General, he was transferred to the St Lukes Hospice where he spent the rest of his life. During that time, he made many friends among the staff and was considered one of their favourite patients. On the 11th March, I woke up beside and a few hours later, he peacefully passed away in the early hours of the morning.
Everyone who knew him was devastated to hear the news and he is missed by many. In honour of his life, my brother and I want to raise £500 for the St Lukes Hospice. The incredible work they do there is often overlooked and it took witnessing the often gruelling work they undertake to realise that. They are real heroes.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
