The Rhino Charge is an offroad 4x4 event where the cars and drivers work with their team to get their car around the course in the shortest possible distance. The funds raised go towards the protection of Kenya's water tower ecosystems.

Story

The Rhino Charge is an annual offroad 4x4 event that has been held in Kenya since 1989. The event raises funds for the Rhino Ark Kenya Charitable Trust's ecological projects that support various community-based conservation initiatives, including the world-renowned Aberdare Electric Fence Project.

Racing for Conservation: The Sapieha Family's Rhino Charge Legacy

In the heart of Kenya's rugged landscapes, where the dust settles and the roar of engines meets the call of the wild, the Sapieha family found their unique path to conservation.

In 1994, Teresa Sapieha, fueled by a passion for the environment, took the steering wheel of Car 47, affectionately named "Wacus," and embarked on a journey that would become synonymous with the Rhino Ark's fundraising efforts. The Sapiehas, known as The Girls in Pearls, joined their father in the adrenaline-fueled quest to raise not only dust but also crucial funds for the protection of Kenya's mountain forests.

Car 47, "Wacus," an unmodified 1956 Land Rover, became a symbol of commitment—a charging force for conservation. The Sapiehas, undeterred by the challenging terrains, raced not only for victory but for a cause greater than themselves. Their participation in the Rhino Charge event became a tradition, weaving the Sapieha name into the very fabric of Rhino Ark's history.

As the years unfolded, the Sapieha family's dedication to the Rhino Charge evolved into a story of resilience and unity. The Girls in Pearls, donned in elegance yet fueled by a fierce commitment, embraced the challenges of the off-road race, transforming it into a platform for environmental advocacy.

Beyond the adrenaline-pumping race, the Sapiehas recognized the profound impact of their contribution. Funds raised through the Rhino Charge event fortified the Rhino Ark Foundation's endeavors, supporting initiatives like the Aberdare Fence Project, water catchment area fencing, environmental protection, and community development.

Join The Girls in Pearls in honoring the Sapieha legacy. Your support propels Car 47 forward, ensuring that each thrilling charge contributes to the safeguarding of Kenya's natural heritage. Together, let's continue racing for conservation—a journey where every bump in the road leads to a brighter, greener future.

Contribute to the Rhino Charge legacy of the Sapieha family—because in the race for conservation, we all cross the finish line together.
