Story
We’re blazing a tartan trail across Glasgow in the name of accessible nights out!
You read that right, Gig Buddies is here to make sure people with a learning disability have the opportunity to paint the town red.
Did you know, many peoples’ paid support worker leaves at 9pm at the latest? Imagine never having evening plans, no late meals, no live gigs, and that “one” pint at the pub really being just one pint.
Don’t like the sound of that? Neither did we, so we’re walking the Edinburgh Kiltwalk to change it!
Donating to our Team or one of our walkers will help Gig Buddies with Thera on our mission to make nights out accessible for people with a learning disability. We do this by pairing volunteers with people with a learning disability, making matches based on their shared interests and personality preferences. Offering support and guidance to the pair, as much or as little as wanted, we have seen over 70 lasting friendships blossom in the last 4 of years!
We also provide essential equipment to support people with a learning disability to attend gigs and overnight festivals. It’s incredibly important to us to tackle this barrier from both sides, so we also deliver accessibility training to local Scottish venues, to help them make nights out more inclusive.
Your donation will power lasting change on the live venue scene, found friendships that will never fizzle out, and fuel nights out that will never be forgotten.
Don’t believe us? Come find us at the finish line… we dare you!
