Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Please consider a donation for my London Marathon run to raise money for two great charities that pioneered work to treat and look after my mum, Jeanette. I'm currently working in New Zealand and am returning especially for the run.
Jeanette is also aiming to walk 2.6 miles (a tenth of the marathon distance) on her prosthetic leg. It may take a couple of sessions or days with rests and putting on and taking off the leg, but it’s a great target and we hope that this helps encourages more people to contribute.
26 miles is a perfect match to the 26 years since Jeanette developed a rare cancer called Sarcoma in her right leg. Her first treatment was surgery and radiotherapy but the cancer spread over many years to the lungs, adrenal, pancreas, stomach, back and thigh. Fortunately, chemotherapy and surgery kept all of those cancers at bay, despite being given a 20-30% chance of surviving a year at one point. Then in 2024, bone Sarcoma developed near the original cancer. Sadly, Jeanette needed an above knee amputation and more chemotherapy, spending her 60th birthday in hospital. She is now up and about, trying to mobilise on a prosthetic leg.
Jeanette is amazing, getting through all of this, but it would not have been possible without the skilled care and attention provided by the dedicated Sarcoma cancer specialists at University College London Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. All of your contributions will be split between these teams to support their ongoing brilliant work.
Please consider donating equally between the two pages.
