Story
Team Gems Shining Lights will be walking the Jurassic Coast in memory of our beautiful Gemma, who sadly passed away in July 2023, and raise money for Young Lives Vs Cancer.
Gemma was diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma in September 2020. Gemma’s nearly 3 year journey took her through weeks of chemo, a massive hip operation and recovery period, intensive radiotherapy, a clinical trial and further Chemo.
Gemma worked hard at whatever she did, and following her diagnosis, Gemma remained so positive and always saw the best in life. She had amazing strength and determination and so much resilience.
Gemma truly lived life to the full when she was able to and loved the outdoors and being by the sea. Gemma is always with us whatever we do and will be cheering us on!
Our team members can choose the distance they wish to undertake while still being in the Gems Shining Lights team and walking in memory of beautiful Gemma 🌟🌟🌟
I will be wearing Gemma‘s walking boots which feels incredible. Her light will definitely be shining bright🌟
We are so thankful to Gemma, for being such an inspiration to us all and for the many hearts and lives she touched with her warm positive approach to life and her beautiful smile.
We are supporting Young Lives Vs Cancer as this is one of Gemma‘s chosen charities who have been supportive in so many ways. Gemma stayed in one of their home from homes before her hip operation in Oxford. They assisted Gemma with finances and grants enabling her to have trips away. Julia their social worker was always available to chat to Gemma when needed and has also been very helpful with bereavement.
We will always be so grateful to Young Lives Vs Cancer for making life a little easier.

When a child is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family. Fear of treatment, but also of families being torn apart, overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn, no one to talk to.
At Young Lives vs Cancer, we help families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. We’ll face it all together – but we can’t do it without you.
