Story
On 21st September Gareth and Anwen will be abseiling down Liverpool Cathedral to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Charity. Neither of us particularly like heights so this will be a challenge but we’re doing it for a great cause that is close to our hearts.
On 16th July this year our Grandson/nephew Asher was born 8 weeks premature. He was flown from the Isle of Man, where his parents and big brother live, to Alder Hey hospital in Liverpool where they later found out he has oesophageal-atresia (OA) and Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula (TOF). This means he was born with his oesophagus connected to his trachea, and not connected to his stomach at all.
Asher underwent surgery at just one day old to detach his oesophagus from his trachea but his oesophagus still isn’t connected to his stomach. He is waiting to have an assessment soon to assess the gap between his oesophagus and stomach so they can decide on the next steps. In the meantime he is being fed through a tube into his stomach and has a special tube into his mouth to suction out saliva as he can’t swallow (which he pulls out all the time as he’s a cheeky boy haha).
Throughout this time Asher has been receiving amazing, world class care from the teams at Alder Hey hospital while he grows big and strong enough for surgery. We want to give back to this incredible hospital that has done so much for our little fighter and countless other children in need.
We would be so grateful for any support you can give, whether that’s a donation or sharing our story. Every contribution will go directly to Alder Hey, helping them continue their vital work in caring for seriously ill children.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support.

Alder Hey Childrens Charity raises vital funds to help make Alder Hey Children's Hospital a truly world-class, patient-friendly hospital for the 330,000 patients and families they care for every year.
Since 2013, over £65m has been raised for a range of life-saving medical equipment and facilities that are making a real difference to families every day - but they still need your support.
To support Alder Hey we will be abseiling 150ft down Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and would appreciate any donations.
Thank you!
