Story
This trek is bringing together a group of people raising money for the Friends of PICU charity. We will be trekking 100km across the hot dunes of the Sahara, near Morocco, making friends and memories which will last a lifetime, challenging ourselves and raising much needed funds for the Friends of PICU charity. Nurses and members of the multidisciplinary team along with parents and relatives who have been on the unit are joining together to complete this exciting challenge. The charity was set up in 2006 and aims to aims to support the children admitted to the unit and their families through providing vital equipment and services that are not always provided by the statutory authorities. Monies raised over the years has helped allow an expansion on the unit, increasing bed capacity by two bed spaces and allowed the retrieval ambulances to be updated, meaning our retrieval team can retrieve sick children within our region and bring them back to PICU for specialist care. The unit has accommodation very close to the unit, which allows parents to have a place to stay when their child is very sick - the charity is funding for this accomodation to have a much needed makeover in the coming months.
