Story
We have a Federated Hermes team tackling the Britain’s highest peaks - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon - all in the space of 24 hours. It will include a total of 480 miles of road travel, and climbing a total of approximately 3,000 vertical metres.
We will be raising much needed funds for Shelter.
Shelter is the UK’s leading housing and homelessness charity. Right now, thousands of people are trying to get by without a safe place to call home. Home is a human right. Home is a human right. It's our foundation and it's where we thrive. Yet, everyday millions of people are being devastated by the housing emergency. Shelter exists to defend the right to a safe home. Because home is everything.
In 2022, Shelter warned that winter could be one of the toughest yet for thousands of people, as 70% of callers to our emergency helpline in England are telling us the cost-of-living crisis is making their housing situation even worse.
In the last three months of 2022, Shelter’s England helpline has found:
• Almost 8 in 10 (78%) callers are already homeless or at risk of homelessness, this is compared with 7 in 10 (70%) during the same period in 2021
• More than 1,000 calls on average are made to the emergency helpline every day, almost 95,000 in total
These harsh figures are further proof that the cost-of-living crisis is causing people in some of the most difficult situations to struggle even more.
