Cancer is relentless. 1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our lifetime^, which is why we’re proud to be raising funds to support Cancer Research UK – the largest charitable funder of cancer research in the world. We aspire to a world where everyone lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.

In support of Cancer Research UK, our Fabulous, Fit and On Fire team of 30 Barclays Group Technology colleagues is taking part in a Lakes District Triple Challenge between Friday 14 July and Sunday 16 July, 2023. The 3-day challenge pits us against the Lake District National Park – we’ll be starting the challenge with the off-road mountain bike trails of Grizedale Forest before trekking to the summit of the Old Man of Coniston peak, and kayaking the iconic Coniston Water.

The challenge is a team event so success comes from all 30 of us completing all 3 activities together, which means:

Mountain biking 12km through Grizedale Forest (including ascent of the hill into the forest),

Climbing 10km, 803m to the summit of the Old Man of Coniston, and

Kayaking around 1.5km of Coniston Water.

Together, our goal is raise over £7,500 to help beat cancer. We’re aspiring to a world where:

Some types of cancer are effectively eliminated.

Many more cancers are prevented from developing in the first place.

People who do develop cancer are diagnosed at the earliest possible stage so that they can be treated successfully.

Treatments are more effective, kinder and more targeted, so people can lead better, more fulfilling lives.

Everyone shares in this progress equally, regardless of who they are, where they’re from or what type of cancer they have.
