Story
Hello,
On the 17th of February, Katie Bennett, Daniel McKelvie, Grant Cunningham and I (Megan Carpenter) are swimming the length of Mount Everest and back! That equates to over 170 lengths of a 25 meter pool per person! This is in alignment with the APM Challenge which involves a team with little project management experience (less than 3 years) to raise money for a chosen charity.
We have picked Harmeny Education Trust Limited as our charity of choice. Harmeny is a local charity which is located in Balerno. This charity is set up to aid children and young people with complex Social Emotional and Behavioural Needs providing services on both a national and regional basis. If you would like to find out more about the services Harmeny provide, please click the following link: https://www.harmeny.org.uk/latest-news/services-we-provide/
As part of this challenge, we aim to restore and upgrade a range of bridges and boardwalks around the grounds. This will provide more accessibility to the large grounds for both the children and staff. The valued total cost of materials required is £2000. In the instance that we do not reach our target or there are issues that will directly affect the build, we will use the money raised on a similar construction for Harmeny.
Our team plan on swimming the whole length of Mount Everest up and down, which totals a distance of 17,696 meters. To put that into perspective that is 11.4 thousand Katie Bennett’s high (yes that is an accurate unit of measurement). The venue for the swim is Nuffield Health at Fountain Park who have kindly given us access to the pool.
Any donations will be greatly appreciated by both the team members and Harmeny.
