Story
In 3 weeks time Jonathan Day , Rupert Swallow and David Evans will be taking part in the Everest in the Alps event which is the ultimate winter sports endurance challenge. The goal is very simple: to ascend the height of Mount Everest on skis – while raising money for worthy causes. It is a gruelling event based in Verbier in the Swiss Alps, which involves approximately 32 hours of uphill ski touring and only 3 hours of downhill, with up to 20 separate ascents. Each day we will climb between 2,000m – 2,500m to reach the overall target of 8,848m. The average time out on the snow is 8 hours a day and up to altitudes of 3,500m, we will burn through a daily average of 10,000 calories – the equivalent of running three back-to-back marathons.
As a team we are raising money for Dementia UK as the terrible condition has personally touched us all. We are also delighted to support the founder of EIA's charity The Brain Tumour Charity, MND Association and CoachCore with fund matching against the money raised.
The team is incurring all the event costs, which will enable 100% of the funds raised to go to these four charities.
This will be the first time any of us have done anything like this. We have been training as best we can for the last few months with the aim of succeeding and so your support will be very gratefully received.
Thanks from Team Excalibur
