Raising money for Bowel Cancer UK and Brain Research UK

Story

We are running the 2025 London Marathon on the 27th April, for 2 fantastic charities in memory of Amy’s Dad, Chaz, and Al’s uncle, Pete, both of whom we lost in early 2024.

We’ve taken on the crazy task of training while on our 6 month trip around South America so while enjoying the scenery we’ll also be running at altitude, in the heat, and fuelled by empanadas and wine.

You can donate to either of our charities and read a bit more about why we’re taking on the challenge below.

Amy’s story

In February 2024 we lost our amazing Dad to bowel cancer, 2 years after he was diagnosed between Christmas and New Year. Dad had no symptoms until the disease was very progressed, as is common with bowel cancer, so it was a huge shock to us all when he was diagnosed after being seemingly healthy just weeks earlier.

Dad’s incredible oncology team led by Dr Tony Dhillon gave us 2 more years of family life and memories, including our wedding, birthdays, Christmases, graduations and starting uni. A lot of Dad’s treatment was really cutting-edge (he was the first UK patient to receive one particular treatment) and we know this is down to the work and dedicated research of charities like Bowel Cancer UK.

Early diagnosis is key to treating bowel cancer, and we’ve also thankfully experienced positive outcomes for close family members with early diagnosis and successful treatment. I am raising money for Bowel Cancer UK to raise awareness of this disease and in the hope that more people can have the best possible chance of survival.

Al’s story

I’m running the London marathon in memory of my uncle Pete, who passed away from a brain tumour last year.

Pete was a big part of my life from a young age. He was at all my major life events and was even the unofficial photographer at our wedding. He had a huge influence on me, he made me a Liverpool fan and introduced me to lots of the classic rock that I love today. In January 2024, he was diagnosed with a brain tumour and passed away a few months later. I’m raising money for Brain Research UK to support their work in advancing brain tumour research.

Brain Research UK are the leading national funder dedicated to research into neurological conditions. Their vision is a world where everyone with a neurological condition lives better and longer. They currently fund a range of cutting edge research projects to help develop new treatments for brain tumours.

With your support they can fund more incredible research.
