Story

Oakhaven Hospice provides specialist palliative care and support to those facing life-limiting illness and their loved ones in both a home and hospice setting.

Our team of specialist Oakhaven nurses, doctors, counsellors and physiotherapists ease physical symptoms and offer psychological, spiritual and social support.

Our care is tailored to suit the needs of each individual and, with a blend of expertise and compassion, the team offers support for people when they need it most.

Daniel Ankersjerne, Richard Grinyer, Mike King, Richard Mutton, Dave Nealon, Nick Richards, Will Tatlow and Gary Watkins.

Eight old men are hanging on to their youth, staving off old age and proposing to walk up three of the highest lakeland mountains, cycling between them. Starting from Wastwater, walking up to the summit of Scafell Pike, the intrepid friends will walk north into Borrowdale, picking up their bikes and then cycling the length of the valley, through Keswick to the foot of their second peak, Skiddaw. From there they will cycle south towards Thirlmere and their third and final summit, Helvellyn.

If all goes to plan they'll be traveling for a total of 14 hours, beginning climbing at 4am and finishing in time to hobble to the pub for a pint and a pie in the evening. They will have walked over 28km and cycled over 27km, ascending over 2500m. Not bad for a bunch of old men.
