Story
A number of people in our team were due to take part in the University Charity Challege this summer, in aid of the University Charity of the year, Cure Leukaemia. You can read more about why this was chosen by following this link: https://www.worc.ac.uk/about/news/cure-leukaemia-announced-as-university-of-worcester-charity-of-the-year.
However, we thought we'd still try and do something to raise money, even though we're now all working remotely! We have decided to see how far we can travel through our exercise (running, walking and cycling) by the end of the academic year (31st August), with a target of 600 miles per month. We have no idea how far we'll get, but we're going to give it our all! We'll add updates as we get to various milestones. We have got off to a great start with 244 miles completed to 12th May. We know times are not easy for a lot of people at the moment, but if you could afford to contribute a pound or two it would really spur us on!
Cure Leukaemia helps to bring pioneering drug and transplant treatments to blood cancer patients. The charity helps finance the internationally renowned Centre for Clinical Haematology at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and a network fo specialist research nurses across the Midlands, to fund life-saving, and sometimes world first, clinical trials to treat patients with blood cancer who have exhausted standard treatment options.
Without the expert research nurses to ensure patients are constantly monitored and cared for; these trials would not run and patients would miss the opportunity to access potentially life-saving therapies. The aim of Cure Leukaemia is to raise money to fund more research nurses and provide world-class treatment for its patients. Only by funding more nurses in more hospitals, can more blood cancer patients benefit from access to potentially life-saving treatment.
