Story
Welcome to Edinburgh Airports Campus Staff Team Page for our 100 mile challenge!
We know that Covid-19 is having an impact on everyone and right now the issue of mental health has never been more important – that’s why we’re raising money for SAMH.
We’re inviting as many colleagues as possible from teams across the Edinburgh Airport campus to get their running shoes on to help us raise funds for our corporate charity.
The aim is for everyone to run 100 miles each over a 30-day period, with the goal of raising a grand total of £10,000 for Scotland’s mental health charity. Join us and help make a difference to your own physical and mental health as well as many others that SAMH help every day. More on SAMH click: SAMH Website

Background & Inspiration
Edinburgh Airport is the working home of around 7,000 people and whether that’s ground handling, car hire, retail, parking, airline staff, airline servicing/fuelling, policing, ATC, cleaning, PRM, you work directly for the airport, or many many more, YOU are part of this community. I’m very proud to be part of the Edinburgh Airport Community and I know many of you will feel the same way. I’m proud because it takes an extraordinary energy and collaboration from at least 50 companies and thousands of staff to deliver and execute our operation every day.
Despite the current situation our vision is to bring this great community together under this fundraising campaign for a really great cause and at a time when our own mental health and well being is more important than ever.
£10,000 is absolutely achievable with the people power of our Airport behind it!
Why should I get involved?
With the majority of us having some more time than normal on our hands we could have time to get out running, and given the current stresses and uncertainty, this is a great way to help your own metal health. At the same time you would be helping improve the mental health of Scotland by raising money to support the fine work of SAMH. (more details below).
What if I’m not a runner or don’t feel distance is my thing!?
If running is not your thing, you can encourage a colleague who runs to get involved, support them with a donation and spread the word as best you can.
If you simply want to donate please click "Donate to team member" at the top of the page and select a person.
If distance is not your thing you can take on a challenge of walking it or why not set up a relay group with a max of 4 people.
Event Details:
- Run or walk 100 miles anywhere with as few or as many sessions as you would like, with the aim of reaching 100 miles at the end of a 30 day period
- Due to social distancing measures and current restrictions you should run alone or with people within your household and make it part of your daily exercise . While we managed to launch this event on a small scale on our runway, sadly no further runs are possible due to the numbers getting involved and current travel restrictions.
- You can also join as a ‘relay group’ with a maximum of 4 people to achieve the mileage. Relay groups should raise only one page for that group.
- To join the effort we ask that you create a Just Giving fundraising page with a commitment to raise a minimum of £100.
- Click this Join the Team link or the “Join the Team” link at the top of the page
- Your page will be automatically linked to this main team page so that all donations will total up and show our progress each day against target.
- You should keep track of your own mileage using a running app (ideally Strava as this can post daily running stats directly to your fundraising page)
- Please add a little personal info in "Your Story" as to why you have got involved and keep your page updated with run progress/photos, as this is the page that you will share with your friends and family, and not the team page.
Naming your fundraising page: -
- To keep all team members aligned under the one campaign please use the following format: -
If you work for EAL use “Edinburgh Airport 30 Day 100 Mile Challenge”
If you work for another company use “Company Name at Edinburgh 30 Day 100 Mile Challenge” (Example: Swissport at Edinburgh Airport 30 Day ……..)
If you are joining as part of a relay group use the same naming instructions as above and just add “relay group” onto the end (Example: Jet2 at Edinburgh Airport 30 Day 100 Mile Challenge Relay Group). In the story section you should add details of the group participants at the top.
Thanks to the 5 members who helped launch this event of Friday and thanks to another 10 who have committed to taking on the challenge - Lets make this 50+ members now!
Thanks for taking the time to read and we look forward to your involvement and support. If you have any other questions, please email me and I will be happy to help.
Many Thanks, John
