Together we can make a difference to the lives of women and children who are recovering from the trauma of domestic abuse.

Story

Domestic abuse is a shadow pandemic, crawling in our society. Women and children are its most affected victims. It is sometimes difficult to identify abuse, especially for young people like students, who are experiencing it.

This year, The University of Edinburgh Economics Society is partnering with Edinburgh Women's Aid (EWA), a local charity that has been providing support for women and children in Edinburgh affected by domestic abuse for 47 years. Just in the year 2019-20, EWA supported 1834 women and 154 children - victims whose mental health, safety, homes, and lives were were threatened.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the requirement to isolate within households puts young women and children in increasing danger of domestic abuse. And these individuals need our help more than ever.

For this Christmas appeal, we are challenging our committee and members to fundraise £1000 in any way imaginable; whether that be a sponsored fitness or new-hobby challenge, or personal monetary donations. Funds raised will provide food, other essentials, and Christmas gifts for women and children in refuge at EWA over the christmas holidays.

Any amount of donation will be a meaningful help to the women and children in need. Thank you for your donation!
