Story
I am attempting to run the Amsterdam marathon on 20th October 2024 and ignore the fact that I turned 60 this year! I will have the bonus of being able to do this with my daughter Jemma, who is also running.
I am raising money for two great charities, Cure Parkinson's and Depaul UK, and you can donate to either charity or even better, donate to both!
Cure Parkinson's
Parkinson's is a disease that is impacting two people I know well each at different stages in their journey.
Nine years ago Mark Limebear was diagnosed with Parkinson's and he has tackled it with his usual humour and fortitude. Mark has been determined to do what he can to tackle the impact of the disease, but also to raise awareness. He has formed "No Silver Bullet 4PD " with Michel Planquart and their mission is to help others with making choices on how to adapt their lifestyle to help slow down disease progression. They do this by interviewing the world's leading authorities on PD and share on YouTube so that they can be found worldwide. More information in the link below.
Steve Breach, a fellow director at Alfa Financial Software (Alfa), was diagnosed earlier this year and with his no nonsense approach has set about understanding as much as possible about the disease and the best way for him to tackle it.
Cure Parkinson's is funding research to slow, stop or reverse the progression of the disease, to hopefully benefit Mark and Steve and others with the disease.
Depaul UK
At Alfa, "Create a positive impact" is one of our core company values and fundraising for charity is one thing we do to demonstrate that value. We like to get involved as much as possible with one charity, so we consolidate our efforts with Alfa employees choosing to support one charity in each of our regions for two years. Our current EMEA charity partner is Depaul UK. Depaul UK was founded in 1989 in response to the growing number of homeless young people sleeping rough on London's streets. It now works in local communities across the country and every year support more than 3,000 young people. We realise that we are fortunate at Alfa to work in a great office environment, but not far away there are people living on the street, having a much, much tougher time. Any donations you make to Depaul UK will be matched by Alfa.
